Framing Tips

Original paintings or prints on stretched canvas or cradled board don’t need framing if you don’t want to - the edges are finished in a solid colour and can be hung as is. (I varnish all my oil + acrylic paintings, so they are more archival and can be easily cleaned.) However, if you wish you can always add a frame - your painting will look even more beautiful framed!

If your painting is on a panel such as a birch board or is on paper (watercolour, gouache or a print on paper), it will need to be framed to hang on the wall. Any frame shop will be able to give you some suggestions and help you with your choices. There are many choices to make: what kind of frame (wood or metal, thickness, colour) and if you want a mat or not. Note that framing works on paper with a mat will make them look even more elegant!

To help with that part of process, here is a link providing general information about framing oil, acrylic or works on paper.
